To honour his memory a scholarship was started in his name. Stephen loved helping young solicitors and so the Stephen Whiteland Memorial Scholarship was born.

THE AWARD

  • A scholarship of $2,000 for a maximum of two (2) years to go towards the study costs of the recipient’s law degree.
  • The opportunity to summer clerk at one of our offices in the recipient’s third and fourth year of study.
  • Invitations to AWS Legal events throughout the term of the scholarship.

CRITERIA

  • Applicants must be entering their third year of their LLB at a New Zealand-based tertiary institution, and intend to continue that course through to completion in order to receive the annual scholarship.
  • Applicants should demonstrate outstanding achievement in any of the following areas:
    • Academic performance
    • Community Service
    • Leadership
    • Cultural or sporting activities
  • Preference is given to applicants from the Otago or Southland regions.
